Great, so you have decided that you want to purchase a property. This is brilliant news, although now of course you are going to need to prepare yourself for that long and arduous property search. On this page I want to run you through a couple of different ways in which you can find the perfect property for yourself. Let’s jump straight in shall we?
For now I am going to presume that you already know what you want in a property. For example you know the sort of area in New Zealand that you want to be located, the amount of money that you have to spend on the property and even the size. This will hopefully make your property search much easier!
One of the first things that you are likely going to do is seek out a real estate agent. Many people nowadays seem to skip this idea as they think they can do it themselves. Honestly though, working with an estate agent will benefit you A LOT. This is an option that you really should look into. You should be able to find plenty in your local area with nothing more than a simple Google search.
The second option that you have is to look through local newspapers. There are plenty of properties being advertised in these every single week. Hopefully by looking through them you will find a couple of properties that you like. You will then be able to get in touch with the person that is advertising them (normally it will be an estate agent, but there may be a few properties out there which have been listed for sale by their owner).
There is one option which many people seem to underestimate. However, I have found that from time to time it is fairly effective for a property search, especially if the current homes that are listed on the market don’t tickle your fancy. This is through word of mouth. Get the word out there that you are searching for a property and you may be surprised at how many people are tempted to list their property who have yet to do so! The great thing is, you will often get first dibs on the property.
Now, I have saved the best option until last. This is the idea of tracking down the perfect home on the internet. There are plenty of them out there. All you need to do is find a website with a good property search feature. One of the great things about searching online is that you will often come across properties that are not listed anywhere else i.e. in estate agents. This is because homes sold by their owners are more popular than ever before. The main avenue for these properties being advertised is through the internet. Give TradeMe or RealEstate.co.nz a try!
